Annette with a Heartwood mom (as a baby) who has recently given birth herself!

The goal of the Heartwood Postpartum Care Program is to provide high quality, community-based postpartum support through regular home visits in the first weeks of new parenthood for those in the Shuswap area. Through an interdisciplinary model of midwife, nurses and physicians we aim to ensure your new family is well-supported with diverse and comprehensive care

  • Standard visits: 1-3 visits in the first week postpartum

  • Visits are planned based on your needs from 1 week to 6 weeks postpartum

  • Our main clinic site is the Shuswap Providence Medical Clinic (located across from the RCMP station in Salmon Arm)

collaborative Postpartum Model

  • Team members include a midwife, registered nurses, and family physicians who will provide home visits in an alternating schedule.

  • Visits include well-woman and newborn care along with close breastfeeding support

  • This program is covered by your CareCard and will work in conjunction with your delivering provider

  • Ariel and Jenna are both lactation consultants (IBCLC) and our other team members have extensive experience providing breastfeeding support
